The African Writers’ Conference (AWC), a literary come-together held every year in a chosen African nation, turns 5 in 2022. The country to host the 2022 edition was announced during the 4th edition of the conference held from the 8th to 9th October 2021 at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Cameroon, Africa and Central Africa’s only bilingual giant is the people’s choice to host the 5th grandiose edition of the AWC.

About Cameroon

Cameroon is a special nation in Africa with English and French as its official languages. The capital is Yaoundé and the country lies at the boundary of Western and Central Africa, thus its twin nature.  Cameroon is bordered by Nigeria to the Northwest, Chad to the Northeast, the Central African Republic to the East, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea to the South, the Republic of Congo to the Southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the Southwest.

It is a nation made up of ten regions, eight of which are French-speaking and the other two, English speaking, making it the only country in Africa with such a special status (Bilingualism). This diverse nature embeds Cameroon with diverse cultures and a hospitable anglophone and francophone population that anyone would love to explore.

Why Cameroon in 2022?

The African Writers Conference (AWC) aims at exploring all of Africa to get a true taste of its literature. Since the birth of the AWC, no French-speaking country has hosted the conference. As a result, after scrutiny, the need to visit and explore Cameroon’s wealthy and exceptional cultural diversity was spurred beyond measure. Besides its cultural diversity, Cameroon has got a plethora of attractions; national parks like Waza, Korup, Mefou parks among others, beaches with white sands and blue waters especially the Limbe and Kribi beaches, a paradise of a botanical garden in Limbe, charming waterfalls, historical and civilized museums, just to name a few. Its vast culture also signals the presence of numerous dishes like the famous corn ‘fufu’ and ‘kati kati,’ ‘achu,’ ‘sanga,’ ‘mbongo chobi,’ water ‘fufu’ and ‘eru’ etc. Nature and beauty in Cameroon are a paradise writers can’t afford to miss. It is a land of inspiration, a land that can trigger the spontaneous flow of emotions in writers who will in response do nothing but excessive penning as it flows. This Africa in miniature (Cameroon) is ready to welcome all African Writers in 2022
