In Creative Corner, poetry

Open your ears, listen to the doleful wailing
Open your hearts, empathize with the world
Open your eyes, look within
See the pandemonium slicing through Mother Earth
Don’t you have a heart for humanity?
Look at the anarchy and chaos you marvel at
Look at the haze of smoke over war-torn nations
Feel the grief of the innocent civilians
Whose lives have been ripped out of their sockets.

Look at the terrifying nuclear weapons
Leaving the world on the cusp of a third global conflict
Look at the threats of climate change
Plunging farmlands into futility
Only to birth famine and malnourishment
Look at those forsaken unemployed youths
Exorcising their demonic idleness to narcotics
Feel the trauma of the girl child
Going under the knife in female genital mutilation.

My heart winces at your egoism
It gusts at your stoicism
Yearning for the bedlam to desist
Or mankind will cease to exist
Save the world
Before it hits the iceberg.
